Hello, I’m Andy, and I’m a Disruptive Technology Addict

I’ve been thinking lately about where I go to from here with my life. I feel like I’m ready to take some steps in a new direction.

In order to do that, I’ve been looking back to see what has, and what has not worked in my life. I realized this morning that I thrive on disruptive technology.

When I was in college, I sold waterbeds because they change the way we sleep.

When I got out of college, I sold Kalso Earth Shoes because they change they way we walk.

When personal computers came on to the scene, I started selling the first of the Apple II’s and IBM PC’s because they changed the way we worked with and processed information.

When the Macintosh arrived on the scene in 1984, I became a Mac addict, as they changed the way we interact with computers.

When local area networking and remote access became available, I jumped into it with both feet.

When the Internet, or more specifically the World Wide Web emerged, I literally quit my job to follow that star.

When Internet Marketing and Advertising began to evolve on the web, way before it was cool, I launched a company — ClickZ — to become the leading authority on online marketing… even though I really didn’t know much about it at the time. The way I figured it, no one else did either.

Now, all of these technologies have either peaked and faded or become somewhat standard fare. It isn’t a radical new idea to get behind anyone of them.

And unfortunately, that bores me.

So I’m doing some research, looking for some new disruptive technologies, something I can pursue with passion and excitement again.

I wish I could say I was otherwise and just be a normal person. I can’t. I’m hopeless. I’m a disruptive technology addict.
